Welcome to San Francisco, California, host to the 2018 UCWDC® Country Dance World Championships. Just as “there’s no place like Worlds”, there really is no other place quite like San Francisco. On this page, we have compiled a list of links to popular attractions around the city, as well as local transportation and weather information so you can plan an enjoyable variety of activities as you travel to attend the Country Dance World Championships. Did you know?

  • SF has the second largest Chinatown outside of Asia. It's also the oldest in North America. It is around one mile long by one and a hals miles wide. More than 100,000 people live in Chinatown and it's the most densely populated neighborhood in the city.
  • SF Also has the largest and oldest Japantown in the United States and one of the three still that remain in the US.
  • San Francisco is only seven miles long by seven miles wide. Due to its small size, it makes it really easy to see a lot in SF in just one day.
  • The color of the Golden Gate Bridge is called International orange. It wasn't a color from the original list of options. it was the primer used to protect the steel for the bridge during transit and the architect loved it more then the other options, so he selected it as the official color.
  • The city is built on more then 50 hills. many believe it only has 7 or 9 hills, but there are a total of more than 50 named hills.

In most years, San Francisco avarages a daily maximum temperature for January that's between 55 and 59 degrees Fahren heit(13 to 15 degrees Celsius). The minimum temperature usually falls between 44 and 48 oF (6 to 9oC). January is the coldest month overall for San Francisco as well as the wettest. Weather can change by the hour, so come prepared; pack layers and a light jacket or raincoat for the cool days, evenings and the occasional rainshower.
